CloseFan Cushion in Khaki
A particularly bold colourway which marries gold rayon Surrey stitch with a backing of pale pink and two contrasting shades of khaki.
As card-carrying textile obsessives, we have been purchasing original gouache maquettes for both printed and woven fabrics for many years. Fan is inspired by one of our favourite examples – a 1920s maquette for a beautiful woven fabric. For many years we wanted to reinterpret this maquette as a wall covering, but the design suggested texture and just demanded to be made using wool.
For our Fan cushion, we took a small section of the original maquette and faithfully recreated it in needlepoint using three different stitches, including a joyously fluffy Surrey stitch in rayon.
The resulting contrasts in texture conjure train carriage upholstery from the 1920s, while the chic colourways and quality of the materials – which include 100% British tapestry wool – bring a sense of extravagance to each handmade piece.
